CNN is modifying “CNN This Morning,” the network announced Monday.
The show will have Kasie Hunt of “Early Start” as its anchor and will run from 5 a.m. to 7 a.m. Eastern time.
“CNN News Central” will move up two hours and run from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m., according to CNN Business.
The changes will take effect at the end of February, according to the Poynter Institute for Media Studies.
“CNN This Morning,” which started in 2022, is shifting hosts Poppy Harlow and Phil Mattlingly possibly to other slots.
Chris Licht, who came up with the original concept for the morning show as a competitor to programs like NBC’s “Today” and MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” was let go in June.
It’s all about the numbers. “CNN This Morning” is drawing 322,000 viewers a day in 2024 versus 988,000 for “Morning Joe” and 1.07 million for “Fox & Friends” on the eponymous network, according to The New York Times.
While CNN will continue producing prime-time and weekend content in New York, “CNN This Morning” will be produced in Washington, D.C.
