The Congressional Baseball Game held Wednesday at Nationals Park in the District of Columbia was interrupted by eight Climate Defiance protesters who rushed the field.

The eight were arrested and have been charged with interference with a member of the U.S. Capitol Police, the law enforcement agency posted on X. Neither the police nor Climate Defiance have named those apprehended.

Video posted by Climate Defiance on X shows Capitol Police officers tackling the protesters as soon as they hit the field.

The group singled out the annual event, where Democrats play Republicans for charity, due to a sponsorship of the event by oil company Chevron. Other activists protested outside the venue with signs.

In subsequent posts on X, Climate Defiance said that instead of the protesters, members of Congress should be locked up, adding, “We were brutalized tonight — beaten and bruised as we took over the Congressional Baseball Game. Our bodies are bloodied, but our spirits are unmoved.”

Chevron donated $5,000, according to the Congressional Baseball Game website.

Inside the venue, another group of protesters spread a separate message, holding a sign that said “Free Palestine” as well as the Palestinian flag, according to local Fox affiliate WTTG.

The GOP team won by a whopping 31-11 for its fourth straight victory.
