Chicago police said they arrested a man early Sunday and charged him with shooting 15 people at a party after he was kicked out of the venue.
Authorities said the suspect, who wasn’t identified, injured nine men and six women when he opened fire on the crowd at about 1 a.m. Sunday at an illegal Halloween party in the North Lawndale neighborhood.
Police said a 26-year-old woman and a 48-year-old man were taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition. The victims ranged in age from 26 to 53 years old, according to police.
Responding officers were able to arrest the suspect shortly after partygoers pointed out the direction he fled.
Andre Williams, one of the performers at the party, said the suspect was arguing with security before being booted from the establishment.
“He came back and put his arm through the door and started shooting,” Mr. Williams told Network Video Productions Inc., which shared video of the interview.
Police said the party venue, Studio 1258, will be closed down for being a business associated with violence.
Studio 1258 has been cited before for operating without proper licenses, according to The Chicago Sun-Times.
