


Cheverly Police Chief David Morris shot and killed a knife-wielding man while on duty Tuesday, police said.
Chief Morris was with a group of officers investigating a stabbing Tuesday afternoon in the 6600 block of Greenland Street when the chief encountered a man armed with knives, police said.
The suspect, who wasn’t identified, charged at Chief Morris, who fatally shot the man, police said. Authorities recovered two knives at the scene.
The Office of Maryland’s Attorney General is investigating the shooting.
Chief Morris, who has 40 years in law enforcement, is on restricted duty while the investigation proceeds. Deputy Chief Jennifer Krauss will take over as acting chief in the interim.
