NextImg:Capital One customers experience problems with deposit access

A Capital One service disruption that began Thursday has continued into Friday, with thousands of customers reporting their inability to access direct deposits or see their account balances.

The high mark of outage reports Friday happened at 9:22 a.m., when 3,991 people reported having an issue using Capital One’s app and website, according to outage reporting website Downdetector.

As of 11:37 a.m., 2,672 people were reporting issues. Early on Thursday, there were about 2,100 outage reports, according to The Associated Press.

Of the problems, 90% involve deposits, with 7% of reports related to seeing account balances and the remaining 3% having issues logging in, reported AP.

The outage stems from technical issues suffered by a third-party vendor, Capital One told CBS MoneyWatch.

On Thursday, the banking giant’s customer service account on X said it was “actively working with the vendor to resolve the issue and restore services, and apologize for the inconvenience. Your current balance will accurately show when the tech issue is resolved. We will care for all reasonable fees incurred as a result of this incident once we are restored.”

That vendor, Fidelity Information Services Global, provides tech help to multiple banks, including Capital One. A power outage caused issues with its apps, which in turn caused the Capital One disruption.

“We are working with impacted clients to finalize the posting of transactions that occurred while systems were offline and expect most, if not all, of that work to be completed today,” an FIS Global spokesperson told CNN.
