Police in Northern California have arrested a woman who was accused of stealing nearly $2,500 of the highly popular Stanley water bottles.

Roseville police said that a 23-year-old woman, who wasn’t identified, was spotted pushing a shopping cart full of the reusable water bottles out of the store without paying for them on Jan. 17.

Store staff tried to stop the woman, but authorities said the suspect ignored them and loaded the 65 stolen tumblers into her car before driving off.

Police said an officer pulled the woman over as she was getting on Highway 65 and arrested her on felony theft charges.

The Stanley water bottles, often referred to as “Stanley Cups,” exploded in popularity last year.

The company’s annual sales went from $75 million to $750 million in 2023, in large part thanks to social media buzz.

The Stanley Cup craze has led to chaotic scenes at supermarkets, with shoppers seen clearing out shelves of the water bottles in seconds.

Roseville is located about 20 miles northeast of Sacramento.
