A 2-year-old girl died at the hospital from being hit by a truck at a Woodland, California, gas station Saturday after a 3-year-old girl climbed into the driver’s seat of the vehicle and ran the victim over, local police said Monday.
The collision happened at 3:46 p.m.
As the victim sat near a 76 gas station’s taco stand, the little girl alone in the truck climbed into the front seat and put the vehicle in motion, police said in a Facebook post.
Law enforcement didn’t say how the 3-year-old changed gears on the truck and caused it to move. It then struck Ailahni Sanchez Martinez.
“She was eating her tacos and all of a sudden I just hear screaming. I ran, opened the door to the truck, I pulled the brake, thought I could stop it, but it was too late already,” her father, Sandro Sanchez, told Stockton CBS affiliate KOVR.
Ailahni was declared dead at the hospital.
Police said all parties were cooperating with investigators. The results of the police investigation will be sent to the Yolo County District Attorney’s Office.
No arrests have been made and no charges have been filed, but Ailahni’s father wants that to change.
“We want justice. I lost my daughter because of someone else,” Mr. Sanchez told Sacramento NBC station KCRA-TV.
