An 81-year-old California man accused of using a slingshot to vandalize car and house windows in his neighborhood over the course of a decade died this week, one day after bonding out of jail.
Prince King was arrested by the Azusa Police Department on May 23. Police claim they found a slingshot and ammunition — ball bearings — inside his residence. Dozens of people were purportedly targeted in the vandalism incidents.
“We’re not aware of any kind of motive other than just malicious mischief,” APD Lt. Jake Bushey told the San Gabriel Valley Tribune.
Mr. King was released from Los Angeles County Jail on bail Tuesday, according to county inmate records, with his next appearance in court set for June 17.
He was ordered to stay 200 yards or more away from homes affected by the alleged vandalism and not to contact any of the purported victims of the vandalism, according to the Guardian.
Mr. King, however, will not get his day in court, as he died of arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease Wednesday, according to records from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner.
The disease involves plaque buildup hardening the arteries and reducing blood flow, according to the American Heart Association.
