C-SPAN, the network that broadcasts U.S. government proceedings, is coming to streaming platforms YouTube TV and Hulu.
C-SPAN, which is a privately funded nonprofit, said that its C-SPAN, C-SPAN 2 and C-SPAN 3 channels are coming to YouTube TV and Hulu sometime in the fall.
The C-SPAN channels will be available on the basic YouTube TV package and on the Hulu + Live TV package for the latter platform, C-SPAN said.
Previously, some C-SPAN content was reserved for cable and satellite customers watching either on TV, the C-SPAN website or the C-SPAN Now app.
As before, people without cable, satellite or streaming subscriptions will be able to view “House and Senate debates, committee hearings, executive branch events, courts coverage, campaign events and Washington Journal — live and without needing to sign in,” C-SPAN says on its website.
In addition to adding its channels, YouTube TV is also sponsoring C-SPAN’s “America 250” programming covering the celebration of the nation’s 250th anniversary.
“C-SPAN has long been a vital resource for civic engagement, and we look forward to partnering with them to both expand their footprint on YouTube and to celebrate America 250 together,” YouTube Chief Business Officer Mary Ellen Coe said.
C-SPAN CEO Sam Feist said of the Hulu partnership that “we are proud that this agreement will give millions more Americans access to our unfiltered coverage of the nation’s political process. For nearly fifty years, CSPAN via its cable and satellite partners has been dedicated to making government accessible and accountable to the people. This agreement with Hulu reflects our long-standing mission is essential to our society and our democracy.”
