A woman was killed in a car crash Monday involving a police officer responding to a bomb threat at the home of Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, according to police.

An officer in the police department for Rome, Georgia, who works with the county bomb squad got in the crash on the way to the congresswoman’s home, resulting in the death of the other motorist, Tammie Pickelsimer, 66.

“These violent political threats have fatal consequences. It’s an undue strain on our law enforcement who must treat them seriously. The officer was responding to protect my life. And now, a woman has lost her life because of this despicable act,” Ms. Greene posted on X.

Ms. Greene, a Republican known for her brash comments and conservative views, has been targeted by bomb threats and so-called swatting incidents, in which someone reports a false emergency at her residence, prompting a law enforcement response.

Nominees to President-elect Donald Trump’s Cabinet and Democratic lawmakers have also faced bomb threats in recent weeks.

In the latest case, Ms. Greene said the Rome Police Department received an email claiming a pipe bomb with a timer and homemade gunpowder was in Ms. Greene’s mailbox. The email, which started with the line “For Palestine,” said the bomb could go off if anyone opened the mailbox.

The police traced the email to a Russian IP address and determined there was “no active threat” against the congresswoman.

“We are pleased to report that Congresswoman Greene is safe. She extends her heartfelt gratitude to the Rome Police Department for their swift and professional response in ensuring her safety,” her office said.

It is unclear how the accident involving the responding office occurred. The police told CNN that the responding officer was “not critically injured.”

“The police shouldn’t have to respond to these threats and there should not be deaths caused at their hands,” Ms. Greene wrote. “I’m sick to my stomach, but I’m also angry. This should have never happened and I pray it never happens again.”
