A shepherd in Pakistan recently found the mummified body of a man who went missing in 1997 while fleeing a family feud.
The body was in a glacier in Kohistan’s Lady Valley.
The man who found the body said the glacier kept it well preserved.
“What I saw was unbelievable. The body was intact. The clothes were not even torn,” shepherd Omar Khan told BBC Urdu.
An identification card found on the body confirmed it belonged to a man named Naseeruddin, who went missing in June 1997.
“A group of visitors spotted the body and informed nearby villagers, who buried it at a local site and later informed the bereaved family,” Amjad Hussain, a local cop, said, according to the Dawn English-language newspaper.
The deceased, survived by a wife and two children, was fleeing a violent family battle along with his brother.
The brother, Kathiruddin, told BBC Urdu that the morning Naseeruddin went missing the two entered a valley, he went to investigate a cave and never returned.
The deceased perished in the glacier and his body was quickly frozen. The lack of moisture and oxygen within the glacier then mummified Naseeruddin’s body.
His family is deciding whether to relocate his body for burial.
