Walt Disney World near Orlando, Florida, may have an Animal Kingdom, but on Monday, wildlife officers had to be called to remove a black bear from the resort’s Magic Kingdom theme park.
The bear had initially been spotted in a tree near the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad rollercoaster in the park’s Frontierland area Monday morning.
Two other zones in the park’s western half, Liberty Square and Adventureland, were also shut down due to the ursine intruder, according to park fan site WDWMAGIC.
Officers with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission arrived on the scene to help park officials deal with the bear. By 12:50 p.m., the closed areas of the park were reopened, according to a Disney statement made to Nexstar Digital Senior Product Manager Scott Gustin, who posted the update on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.
The bear, an adult female, was eventually captured in a backstage zone near Frontierland’s Rivers of America, according to a subsequent update on X from Mr. Gustin.
FWC officers relocated the bear elsewhere.
“In most cases, it is best for bears to be given space and to move along on their own, but given this situation, staff have captured the animal and are relocating the bear out of the park to an area in or around the Ocala National Forest,” the wildlife officials told ABC News in a statement.
As the season changes to fall, bears become more active, looking to bulk up before their winter hibernation.
