NextImg:Biden says Philadelphia voters helped him win Delaware Senate seat

President Biden mixed up the state he represented for nearly 40 years in the U.S. Senate career while talking to voters in Philadelphia.

“Even when I was running for Senate, each time I ran, quite frankly, not a joke, Philadelphia, in particular, got me across the line,” he said during a campaign event.

He then doubled down on his statement.

“No, I’m not joking,” he said as people cheered and applauded. “No, I mean it, seriously, organizationally, and in terms of fundraising — the whole deal.”

Mr. Biden served as U.S. senator for Delaware from 1973 to 2009 before becoming former President Obama’s vice president.

While Mr. Biden’s residence in Wilmington and other parts of northern Delaware are in the Philadelphia designated market-area region, the city would not have helped him win the Senate seat since only state residents can vote for senators.

Mr. Biden was in Philadelphia and Harrisburg on Sunday for campaign events.
