President Biden says he is the best person to occupy the White House even though he would be 86 years old at the end of a second term.
Mr. Biden, 81, also told Time magazine that he never wavered on seeking reelection because of his age.
“I can do it better than anybody you know. You’re looking at me, I can take you too,” he said in the magazine’s exclusive interview.
Mr. Biden is defiant about his age despite polls showing a majority of Americans, including members of his party, believe he is too old to be president.
Some Democrats thought Mr. Biden would give way to a younger alternative. Instead, he is raising millions for his reelection campaign and barreling toward picking up the party’s nomination.
His Republican opponent, former President Donald Trump, is 77 but making hay with Mr. Biden’s shuffling walk and mental miscues, saying the incumbent “can’t put two sentences together.”
Speaking to Time, Mr. Biden said the proof is in the pudding.
He pointed to the massive bipartisan infrastructure deal he orchestrated, plus billions in funding to deal with climate issues and initiatives to build up the semiconductor industry in the U.S.
“Look, name me a president that’s gotten as much done as I’ve gotten done in my first three and a half years,” Mr. Biden said. “When all of you wrote in Time magazine I couldn’t get any of it done.”
