President Biden warned supporters Thursday that the guilty verdict against former President Donald Trump in the New York hush-money case won’t stop him from being on the ballot in November.
Biden-Harris campaign communications director Michael Tyler said the verdict underscores the need to vote against Mr. Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee.
“Donald Trump has always mistakenly believed he would never face consequences for breaking the law for his own personal gain,” Mr. Tyler said. “But today’s verdict does not change the fact that the American people face a simple reality. There is still only one way to keep Donald Trump out of the Oval Office: at the ballot box. Convicted felon or not, Trump will be the Republican nominee for president.”
Mr. Tyler said the verdict shows the kind of chaos Mr. Trump would bring with him to the presidency if he were reelected.
“The threat Trump poses to our democracy has never been greater. He is running an increasingly unhinged campaign of revenge and retribution,” he said. “A second Trump term means chaos, ripping away Americans’ freedoms and fomenting political violence — and the American people will reject it this November.”
Minutes after the verdict was announced, the Biden campaign began fundraising off it.
“There’s only one way to keep Donald Trump out of the Oval Office: At the ballot box,” Mr. Biden posted on X, alongside a link for donations.
Mr. Biden wasn’t the only one though. Mr. Trump, the Senate campaign of Democrat Adam Schiff, and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s Win Red group all sent fundraising appeals capitalizing on the verdict Thursday evening.
A New York jury found Mr. Trump guilty on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records to cover up hush-money payments to two women who said they had affairs with him. He has denied the affairs.
