President Biden is heading straight to Delaware after he gives a speech Tuesday to a gun-control advocacy group, a sudden change in schedule after his son Hunter was convicted in federal court of trying to circumvent background check laws when he purchased a firearm.
The White House announced the update shortly before Mr. Biden was set to take the stage at a Washington event hosted by Everytown’s Gun Sense University. After the speech, Mr. Biden will head to Joint Base Andrews in Maryland to fly to Wilmington, Delaware.
The administration did not outline what Mr. Biden planned to do, but the president appears to be heading home to comfort his newly convicted son.
The White House issued the scheduling update within hours after a jury in Wilmington found Hunter Biden guilty of three felony counts stemming from his purchase of a gun in October 2018 while in the throes of a crack addiction.
Hunter Biden is the first child of a sitting president to be convicted of a crime.
