NextImg:Ben & Jerry concoct Kamala Harris-themed coconut ice cream for MoveOn’s get-out-the-vote tour

The politically active co-founders of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream have created a flavor based around Vice President Kamala Harris as part of a get-out-the-vote campaign with left-wing MoveOn.

The flavor, called “Kamala’s Coconut Jubilee,” plays on a much-memed May 2023 comment by Ms. Harris in which she related a childhood anecdote about her mother asking rhetorically, “You think you just fell out of a coconut tree?”

The pints are coconut flavored with caramel ripples and red, white and blue star-shaped sprinkles. MoveOn is raffling off autographed pints of the ice cream at each stop on its “Scoop the Vote” tour, the organization said in a release Thursday.

The pints, though created by Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield, are not an official Ben & Jerry’s product. They bear the name “Ben’s Best,” Mr. Cohen’s private label. He previously released a couple of flavors supporting Sen. Bernard Sanders under the label.

Mr. Cohen and Mr. Greenfield, who each have a net worth estimated at $150 million, have long championed liberal caucuses.

They hand-made about 40 pints of “Kamala’s Coconut Jubilee” for the tour, according to USA Today.

The tour also includes a truck serving free ice cream which also has political themes, including an “Inauguration Celebration Birthday Cake,” “Fight For Our Rights Sorbet,” “MoveOn Mobilizer Milk Chocolate,” as well as “Unburdened by What has Vanilla Bean,” a play on a phrase commonly used by Ms. Harris.

MoveOn did not specify what flavor the sorbet will be.

The “Scoop the Vote” tour kicks off Monday in Philadelphia. It will make 22 stops across the country, focusing primarily on battleground states Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Arizona and Nevada. There are also stops scheduled in New York and Ohio.

“There’s a ton of folks that are already tuned into this election, and then there’s a vast, vast set of folks that aren’t … We’re not going to win this election through New York Times op-eds. We’re not going to win this election through pushing out smart tweets. We’re going to win this election by actually talking to the voters,” MoveOn Executive Director Rahna Epting told USA Today.
