A six-year-old boy got hold of a gun and shot his baby brother in the face while neither parent was at their Detroit home, according to police.

Detroit Police Assistant Chief Charles Fitzgerald said the infant boy was in his bouncy chair when the older brother grabbed the gun and shot the baby twice — once through his cheek and once through his shoulder.

The baby was still in the hospital as of Thursday morning, according to local NBC affiliate WDIV-TV.

“Here we are again,” Chief Fitzgerald said Wednesday. “Once again another senseless, preventable, horrible incident.”

Police said that the father was in the backyard fixing a fence, while the mother was visiting a friend down the street.

“We’re here far too often talking about securing your weapons,” Chief Fitzgerald said. “There are gun locks, there are gun safes, there are the highest shelves you can find in your house. Put the gun up as high as you possibly can.”

No one has been arrested in the incident as of Thursday, WDIV reported. Police said they are trying to get a search warrant for the home.
