Environmental authorities in the Australian state of Queensland are investigating an American influencer for two videos showing him wrangling two crocodiles.
Mike Holston, who goes by “The Real Tarzann” as an influencer, is accused of catching and handling a freshwater crocodile in one video and a saltwater crocodile in another, according to the Australian Broadcasting Corp.
A Queensland Department of the Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation spokesperson said it was investigating and that “these actions are extremely dangerous and illegal, and we are actively exploring strong compliance action, including fines to deter any person from this type of behavior.”
Mr. Holston released both reptiles back into the wild at the end of the two videos. He could face a fine of close to $25,000.
“Let us be clear: People should not attempt to capture freshwater or saltwater crocodiles in Queensland unless they are trained and licensed to do so,” the department said.
Mr. Holston is not the first American influencer to run afoul of Australian authorities over the country’s wildlife. In March, hunting influencer Sam Jones was denounced and left the country after she uploaded a video showing her separating a baby wombat from its mother.
