AT&T customers suffered service outages Wednesday morning in Maryland, Virginia, Texas, the Carolinas, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Georgia, New York, Massachusetts, California and Florida.

The issue began at 4 a.m., according to the Downdetector website. Reports began to pour in, with a peak of 1,313 reports of phone and Internet service outages by AT&T customers at 7:14 a.m.

People have continued to report their outages, with 214 reports coming in at 9:29 a.m. compared with a normal baseline for that time of day of 35 outage reports, according to Downdetector.

AT&T told the Daily Mail that some of its cell towers are showing as degraded, possibly contributing to connection problems across the U.S.

While the Downdetector map showed trouble in multiple states, including Maryland, Texas, South Carolina, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Georgia, New York, Massachusetts, California and Florida, the company said the issue was most acute in parts of Virginia and North Carolina.

“We worked as quickly as possible to restore service to some customers in the coastal areas of Virginia and North Carolina whose service may have been affected this morning by an equipment failure. We apologize for the inconvenience,” an AT&T spokesperson told The Washington Times.
