Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez vowed Monday to remove the conservative justices from the U.S. Supreme Court.
The firebrand New York Democrat said the justices’ ruling earlier in the day that the president is immune in his official duties, a victory for former President Donald Trump, was anti-democratic and tyrannical.
“The Supreme Court has become consumed by a corruption crisis beyond its control. Today’s ruling represents an assault on American democracy,” she wrote on X.
But she said she will fix that problem when the House returns from its Independence Day recess.
“It is up to Congress to defend our nation from this authoritarian capture. I intend on filing articles of impeachment upon our return,” she wrote.
Democrats are in the minority in the House, so the chance of any conservative justice being impeached on Ms. Ocasio-Cortez’ initiative — much less convicted and removed by the Senate — are essentially zero.
She quickly got a second from “Star Wars actor Mark Hamill. “Thank you @AOC,” he wrote.
LibsOfTikTok had a different reaction. “I see you’re taking it well,” she wrote, followed by a tears of laughter emoji.
