Social media videos claiming animals are fleeing Yellowstone National Park in large numbers are wrong, the National Park Service says.

Videos on Instagram and other platforms show bears, bison and other animals native to the park, which is mainly in Wyoming, streaming past parked cars. NPS believes the videos are satirical and produced using artificial intelligence.

“Wildlife is not leaving Yellowstone National Park in large numbers. This rumor is false,” NPS spokeswoman Linda Veress told ABC News.

The park’s seismic and volcanic activity, which could cause animals to flee, was at its normal level as of July 1, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

Some of the videos showed animals such as cougars moving in groups, although they are normally solitary and territorial.

“They have a weekly round with a territory that they travel through, but you’re not going to see them in a video of them running down the road,” Tom Murphy, a wildlife photographer who has snapped pictures at Yellowstone for decades, told ABC.
