An animal rights extremist linked to two Bay Area bombings over 20 years ago and part of the FBI’s Most Wanted terrorist list was captured in Britain this week, U.S. authorities said Tuesday.

The U.K.’s National Crime Agency said local authorities apprehended Daniel Andreas San Diego, 46, in Wales on Monday.

The NCA didn’t describe how they managed to capture the fugitive who first fled the U.S. in 2003.

“Daniel San Diego’s arrest after more than 20 years as a fugitive for two bombings in the San Francisco area shows that no matter how long it takes, the FBI will find you and hold you accountable,” FBI Director Christopher Wray said in a statement. “There’s a right way and a wrong way to express your views in our country, and turning to violence and destruction of property is not the right way.”

In August 2003, Mr. San Diego was accused of planting two homemade pipe bombs at the offices of Chiron Corp., a biotech company in Emeryville, California.

One of the bombs detonated early in the morning on Aug. 28, 2003, while the second bomb was defused by technicians before it could explode.

Mr. San Diego allegedly planted another bomb “wrapped in nails” a month later at nutritional company Shaklee Corp in Pleasanton.

Authorities said no one was injured by any of the bombs.

The FBI said Mr. San Diego targeted the two companies because they had ties to a lab that was involved in animal experiments.

The agency put Mr. San Diego on its wanted terrorist watch list in 2009. He is believed to be affiliated with extremist animal rights groups.
