Neither he nor his brother and passenger Stephen Baldwin was injured in the Monday accident.
Mr. Baldwin, 67, explained on Instagram that the crash happened in East Hampton, New York, when a “garbage truck the size of a whale” cut him off, causing him to veer into a tree. Police corroborated his account.
The East Hampton Township Police Department told Long Island newspaper Newsday that “a white 2023 Range Rover … was found to have struck a tree on the eastbound shoulder of the roadway while avoiding the turning action of a 2020 Mack commercial truck … the contributing factors to the accident were found to be a reaction to an uninvolved vehicle and the slippery and wet roadway conditions.”
Mr. Baldwin and his 59-year-old brother were returning from the Hamptons International Film Festival at the time of the crash. The “Glengarry Glen Ross” and “The Hunt for Red October” actor is the co-chair of the festival’s executive committee.
