Susan Sarandon has been canceled.
The Oscar-winning actress was dropped by her talent agency after an anti-Jewish rant at a rally in New York City.
“There are a lot of people afraid of being Jewish at this time and are getting a taste of what it feels like to be a Muslim in this country,” said the 77-year-old Ms. Sarandon, known for decades as one of the most outspoken leftists in Hollywood.
That was a bridge too far for the agency UTA, which said Tuesday that it will no longer represent Ms. Sarandon as it has for nearly a decade.
The Beverly Hills agency confirmed dropping Ms. Sarandon to multiple news outlets but declined to elaborate publicly.
However the New York Post reported Tuesday that “several staffers at UTA were extremely hurt by Sarandon’s comments.”
Ms. Sarandon had no immediate public comment Tuesday.
For much of the 1980s and 1990s, Ms. Sarandon was one of the world’s most-popular and respected performers, winning the best actress Oscar for “Dead Man Walking” and appearing in such commercial hits and critical successes as “Bull Durham,” “The Witches of Eastwick,” “Thelma and Louise,” and “The Client.”
