NextImg:A-list Hollywood fundraiser nets Biden campaign record $28M

President Biden’s campaign raked in $28 million at a Hollywood fundraiser over the weekend featuring former President Barack Obama and several A-list celebrities, the campaign announced Monday.

The massive haul is the most raised at a single fundraiser for a Democratic candidate, according to the campaign. It broke the record set by Mr. Biden in March when he raised $26 million at an event in New York featuring Mr. Obama and former President Bill Clinton.

Among the celebrities who turned out for Mr. Biden at the ritzy event were George Clooney, Julia Roberts, Jason Bateman, Jack Black, Kathryn Hahn and Jimmy Kimmel.

Ahead of the event, Jeffrey Katzenberg, a longtime Hollywood producer who serves as co-chairman of the Biden campaign, said he expected to see “an unprecedented and record-setting turnout” from the media and entertainment world.

Tickets at the Peacock Theater started at $250 and went as high as $500,000 for a four-seat package.

Mr. Biden and fellow Democrats have largely outpaced presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump in donations for much of the election cycle. However, the former president has shortened the gap.

In April, Mr. Trump pulled in $50.5 million at an event in Palm Beach, Florida. The Trump campaign said it raised $141 million in May, matching what Democrats raised in April and May combined. Much of Mr. Trump’s fundraising came within 24 hours of his criminal conviction, netting him $53 million.
