A pair of crop duster planes collided over a field near Morton, Texas, Friday morning. One pilot died as a result, while another was injured.
The two pilots were the only people on board the two Air Tractor AT-502s when they collided at around 8:40 a.m. local time, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
The two planes were crop dusting a cotton field before the collision, the Cochran County Sheriff’s Office said, according to Lubbock, Texas, CBS affiliate KLBK-TV.
One pilot was declared dead by first responders while the other was taken to a Lubbock hospital with unspecified but serious injuries, the Texas Department of Public Safety said, according to KLBK-TV. Neither pilot has been publicly identified by authorities.
Footage of the wreckage of one of the planes from Lubbock NBC affiliate KCBD-TV shows registration number N2032K. The FAA record says the plane is owned by King Ag Leasing, based out of Sudan, Texas.
The National Transportation Safety Board is now in charge of the investigation.
