A twin-engine plane with three people aboard slammed into a construction site in McKinney, Texas, Thursday. The pilot and one passenger died, while another traveler remains hospitalized.

The plane, a Cessna 414, crashed just after taking off from McKinney National Airport at 10:25 a.m., the Federal Aviation Administration said.

The plane struck a mound in a yard full of concrete materials, according to Dallas NBC affiliate KXAS-TV. On board were pilot Michael Lewis, 67, and two mechanics, Gustavo Moreno, 53, and Randy Williams, 35.

Mr. Lewis and Mr. Moreno died in the crash. Mr. Williams was flown to a hospital in critical condition. His family told KXAS that he is “fighting hard and improving already.”

The 44-year-old plane belonged to Hunger Relief Ministries based in Forney, Texas, according to Dallas CBS affiliate KTVT. Mr. Lewis was listed as the president of the organization for fiscal 2022, according to ProPublica.

The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the crash’s cause.
