A crew digging a hole for an electrical conduit in Waltham, Massachusetts, Monday unearthed 13 cannonballs.

After concerned workers notified authorities about possible unexploded ordnance, the Waltham Fire Department responded to the scene before calling in the Waltham Police Department, the State Police Bomb Squad and the Hazardous Materials Unit.

Nearby buildings and a shopping center were evacuated as a precaution, Waltham fire officials said in a post on X, and the unearthed cannonballs were disposed of safely by the bomb squad.

The location where the cannonballs were found was formerly a Raytheon company location, according to The Boston Globe. No other explosives were found in the area.
