A 12-year-old boy has been charged with murder in the shooting death of Sonic Drive-In employee Matthew Davis, 32, in Keene, Texas, Saturday.
The boy’s name was not disclosed by law enforcement; the adult with him, Angel Gomez, 20, has also been charged with murder. Both suspects hail from Fort Worth, Texas.
At around 9:40 p.m. Saturday, Davis confronted Mr. Gomez in the Sonic parking lot for being disorderly and urinating in public. The spat then became physical.
At some point after the escalation, Mr. Gomez’s 12-year-old passenger retrieved an AR-15 rifle from within the car and shot Davis six times, the Keene Police Department alleges.
Davis died in the hospital later Saturday.
The pair fled the scene, but Mr. Gomez returned to the drive-in, where he was arrested upon arrival. The investigation led law enforcement to a location in Rio Vista, Texas, where they apprehended the 12-year-old boy.
Several firearms were recovered at the Rio Vista location.
Davis is survived by his mother and his 10-year-old son.
