NextImg:100 million meals sent to Gaza since U.S.-backed aid group geared up in May

The U.S.- and Israeli-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation on Friday announced that 100 million meals have been delivered to civilians in the Gaza Strip since starting operations in late May.

The announcement coincided with an inspection on Friday of a GHF distribution center in the southern Gaza city of Rafah by Steve Witkoff, President Trump’s special envoy to the Middle East, and U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee.

Gaza is one of the most complex operating environments in the world, and we are very proud of the incredible work our dedicated team has accomplished while operating in a very dangerous and active war zone,” said the Rev. Johnnie Moore, GHF’s executive chairman. “However, the milestone is bittersweet, given the continued shortage of aid coming into Gaza from other humanitarian groups who either lack the ability to safely deliver it or the willingness to work with those who can.”

The United Nations has criticized GHF’s work in Gaza, saying malnutrition rates surpassed famine threshold levels in Khan Younis, Deir al Balah and Gaza City. Citing figures from Hamas-controlled Gaza health authorities, the U.N. said 63 starvation cases occurred in July alone.

GHF said it has the only reliable food aid system in the Palestinian enclave.

“Meanwhile, new data shows that nearly 90% of aid trucks for the U.N. and other humanitarian groups are being looted by military age men, with many civilians being injured and trampled,” the nonprofit said in a statement.

Each aid box includes enough food to feed a family of 5.5 three times a day for 3.5 days. They’re filled based on the same ingredients used by organizations like the World Food Program and Oxfam that have long histories in Gaza, GHF officials said.

“As GHF continues to feed the people of Gaza, this should serve as a call to action for other groups, including the U.N., to step up and collaborate with us so that there is more aid for more people,” said John Acree, the group’s interim executive director.
