Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has expressed doubt that the potential fight between him and fellow billionaire Elon Musk will ever happen, telling the public that it is "time to move on."
Zuckerberg stated on Sunday that Musk "isn't serious" about making the fight happen and that he has listed several reasons he cannot make the fight happen, including saying "he needs surgery" and wanting to practice in Zuckerberg's backyard. Zuckerberg claims it comes after he offered a date for when the fight could occur. Additionally, Dana White, the president of Ultimate Fighting Championship, offered to make the fight "a legit competition," according to a post that Zuckerberg made to Threads, Meta's alternative to Twitter.

"If Elon ever gets serious about a real date and official event, he knows how to reach me," Zuckerberg said. "Otherwise, time to move on. I'm going to focus on competing with people who take the sport seriously."
Zuckerberg casting doubt on the fight ever happening comes only a week after Musk stated that the fight would be livestreamed to X, the social media platform once known as Twitter. Musk also said that all proceeds generated from the fight would be donated to charity for veterans.
Zuckerberg has joked about Musk's proposal to host the platform on X, stating the fight should be livestreamed on a platform "that can actually raise money for charity."
Musk's biographer, Walter Isaacson, stated in July that the supposed cage fight between Musk and Zuckerberg is really just a metaphor for the pair's online battle between X and Threads. Isaacson added that an actual fight between the two men is unlikely and that Musk's attitude toward Zuckerberg is due to Musk's impulsive nature and "demon mode."

"He really loves it, and he loves putting out impulsive tweets," Isaacson said. "He loves the contentiousness of it. You know his favorite line in a movie is, 'Are you not entertained?' That final line of the Gladiator, and that's what [is] distinguishing Twitter for better and for worse against things like Threads."
In July, Zuckerberg revealed he had earned a blue belt in jujitsu and that he was learning the martial art from "jujitsu legend" Mikey Musumeci. He and Musk had agreed to a cage match between each other in June.
