Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R-VA) attended a meet-and-greet donor event in Nantucket, Massachusetts, last week amid growing speculation of a last-minute 2024 presidential bid as Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) struggles to challenge former President Donald Trump.

A source familiar confirmed to the Washington Examiner that Youngkin attended the event at the home of Robert Reynolds, the CEO of Putnam Investments. Also present was billionaire Blackstone CEO Stephen Schwarzman, who has been undecided in the 2024 Republican contest thus far.

The source confirmed what was reported by Puck News senior political correspondent Tara Palmeri on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Schwarzman came out against Trump in 2024 last year, telling Axios, "It is time for the Republican Party to turn to a new generation of leaders, and I intend to support one of them in the presidential primaries." Loss of support from the donor was considered a blow to Trump's 2024 effort.

But the megadonor reportedly withheld committing to support DeSantis after a spring meeting in Florida despite DeSantis being viewed as the largest threat to Trump in the primary.

This comes as reports emerge alleging that media mogul Rupert Murdoch may be souring on DeSantis as well. Reports have claimed Murdoch has been encouraging Youngkin to enter the 2024 race at the last second.

The Washington Post reported last week that Murdoch and Youngkin have spoken at least two times in person about the possibility of a presidential run by the Virginia governor.

A representative for Murdoch did not provide comment to the Washington Examiner.
