New York Yankees first baseman Anthony Rizzo was placed on the injured list Thursday with post-concussion syndrome, months after a collision that is believed to have sparked symptoms of "fogginess."

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Rizzo was being placed on the 10-day injured list after not playing on Wednesday.

“Just been complaining a little bit the last few days of some fogginess, so we ran him through a battery of tests, neurological stuff, and it kinda showed up and came back as some cognitive impairment,” Boone said at a press conference.

“So he’s gonna be shut down right now, and hopefully, with the treatment he’s getting, we’ll start to see some improvements,” Boone continued.

Boone said the concussion symptoms may have been linked to a collision between Rizzo and San Diego Padres shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. during a game in May.

Rizzo left the game after the collision but later said he was fine and had passed MLB's concussion protocols.

In exchange for placing Rizzo on the injury list, the Yankees called up Oswaldo Cabrera from AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre ahead of their game against the Houston Astros on Thursday.

The Yankees are currently in last place in the American League East, 10 1/2 games behind the division-leading Baltimore Orioles, and they are three games out of a wild card spot. The team has a record of 56-52.
