House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) opened an oversight hearing with FBI Director Christopher Wray by accusing the bureau of suppressing free speech on social media and lying about Hunter Biden’s laptop.
Jordan repeatedly referenced a recent court ruling that provided a preliminary injunction blocking officials in President Joe Biden’s administration from having any contact with social media companies.

“The government has used its power to silence the opposition,” Jordan said. “Opposition to the COVID-19 vaccines … Statements that the Hunter Biden laptop was true, and opposition to policies of the government officials in power all were suppressed.”
The chairman also hit Wray on the FBI's targeting of parents and anti-abortion Catholics.
“Parents called terrorists, Catholics called radicals, and I haven't even talked about spying that took place in the presidential campaign,” Jordan said.
Ranking Member of the Judiciary Committee Jerry Nadler (D-NY) pushed back on Jordan’s comments and blamed Republicans for turning the Judiciary Committee into political theater. He claimed that in the past year, the FBI director testifying before the committee would’ve been a bipartisan fact-finding hearing, but with Republicans in charge, Jordan had turned it into a partisan hearing.
“Last year, Director Wray faced multiple credible death threats. FBI employees faced more threats in the months after the Mar-a-Lago search than they had in the entire prior year. It is far past time that Republicans realize the consequences of their actions,” Nadler said.
In his opening statement, Wray stayed away from addressing the accusations thrown at him by House Republicans and instead focused his remarks on the good the FBI has done.

Wray complimented his agents for putting drug traffickers behind bars and getting “60 bad guys off the street every day.
“Today’s FBI leaders reflect the best of this organization,” Wray said. “An organization that’s made up of 38,000 men and women who are patriots, professionals, and dedicated public servants. That is the real FBI.”
