“The President’s disastrous decision to bomb Iran without authorization is a grave violation of the Constitution and Congressional War Powers. He has impulsively risked launching a war that may ensnare us for generations. It is absolutely and clearly grounds for impeachment,” Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) wrote on X.
Interesting choice of words by the possible 2028 Democratic nominee regarding President Donald Trump’s strikes on Iran’s nuclear sites, which were carried out with precision and surprise on Saturday night.

Lots to unpack here. For starters, the 1973 War Powers Act, which she appears to be referring to, simply calls for Congress to be notified before military action is undertaken. It says nothing about authorization. And Trump did inform Congress and tried to speak to House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) directly. But he either wouldn’t answer the calls or simply chose to ignore them.
As for the strikes beginning a war that will last for decades, this kind of argument is just one more reason why Ocasio-Cortez can never be commander in chief. Let’s be clear: This isn’t Iraq or Afghanistan. No U.S. boots are going to march into Tehran and begin the process of nation-building while being sitting ducks for IEDs and ambushes, as they were in the aforementioned two war theaters.
We’ve already seen how weak Iran’s military has become after the Islamic Republic attacked a major base in Qatar, or at least attempted to. Almost all missiles were intercepted by defense systems, and the U.S. reported no casualties. Iran was even kind enough to give the United States and Qatar advance notice of the attack, making it entirely symbolic. And it assures that Iran knows it can’t win any fight with the U.S. and Israel, especially when Israel and the U.S. can fly in and out and hit whatever target they want with no resistance.
But no matter: Just like everything we’ve seen during Trump 2.0, nearly all Democrats not named John Fetterman immediately run to CNN or MSNBC or social media for the usual cheesy performance art that entails calls for saving democracy and Trump acting like an authoritarian. It’s beyond toothless at this point.
“He must not, and under our Constitution cannot, take these actions without congressional authorization and a full debate in Congress over the goals, risks, and implications,” Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) wrote on X over the weekend.
One problem: In 2011, she supported U.S. airstrikes in Libya when then-President Barack Obama ordered them without congressional oversight.
How about the House minority leader at the time, Nancy Pelosi?
“The limited nature of this engagement allows the president to go forward,” Pelosi told reporters in 2011. “I’m satisfied that the president has the authority he needs to go ahead.”
But here she is after a Republican president, Trump, did exactly what Obama did.
“Tonight, the President ignored the Constitution by unilaterally engaging our military without Congressional authorization. I join my colleagues in demanding answers from the Administration on this operation which endangers American lives and risks further escalation and dangerous destabilization of the region,” Pelosi said.
Just spitballing here, but this seems patently hypocritical.
Our lovely media, of course, have been no better. Here’s CNN’s Bakari Sellers, for example, pining for former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to be president now instead because her demeanor would be better than Trump’s.
“Today is a day where Dems miss a voice like @HillaryClinton,” Sellers wrote. “A sober, experienced, clear eyed diplomat who can, with nuance, praise the precision of the air strikes, and clearly articulate the need to supplement Israel’s efforts in Iran. And also, being critical of tethering yourself to a war with no clear end.”
Sellers must have forgotten how Clinton celebrated then-Libyan President Muammar Gaddafi being hunted down and killed in the streets of Tripoli following U.S. airstrikes and an internal revolt leading to regime change.
“We came, we saw, he died!” Clinton joked when told of Gaddafi’s death before an interview with CBS News.
Yep. Totally sober, experienced, and clear-eyed…
CNN’s Kristen Holmes also got into the act by oddly criticizing Trump for consulting with his secretary of defense, secretary of state, his vice president, and his Joint Chiefs of Staff chairman.
“These decisions are being made among a very small group of people who are Trump loyalists, Trump elitists, such as his secretary of defense [Pete Hegseth] … Marco Rubio, his secretary of state … JD Vance, the vice president” and “his joint chief of staff, Dan Caine,” she reported.
But wait … Trump elitists? What does that even mean? And who exactly should a commander in chief consult with on military strategy outside of his vice president, who is former military, his secretary of state, who was confirmed by the Senate 99-0, his secretary of defense, also former military, and his Joint Chiefs of Staff chairman, an Air Force general?
The sanctimony is truly off the charts. Sen. Adam Schiff (D-CA) leads the way on this front once again by complaining on CNN that he wasn’t privy to information on the U.S. attack ahead of time.
“This was not constitutional. It was not lawful, in the absence of a declaration by Congress. And so the administration should have come to Congress. We will have a vote on a War Powers Resolution. But there’s a reason to bring this to Congress, and it is, you want the Congress bought in.”
Schiff is known as the biggest leaker to the press on Capitol Hill, so if you’re the Trump administration and seeking the element of surprise, he’s absolutely the last person you’d want to provide sensitive military plans to. And, by the way, Schiff also supported Obama’s military strikes on Libya without congressional approval.
Here’s the big picture moving forward: If the ceasefire between Israel and Iran holds and peace can be achieved, all while Iran’s nuclear program is decimated and the U.S. suffers no casualties, this will go down on the level of the Berlin Wall coming down and the Soviet Union collapsing. That’s not hyperbole. And Democrats and the media will have zero credibility after seemingly rooting against this Iran effort under the ridiculous guise of the U.S. strikes being illegal, unconstitutional, and impeachable.
These same Democrats were silent in 2016 when, according to the Council on Foreign Relations, Obama dropped more than 26,000 bombs on Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Yemen, Somalia, and Pakistan. Yet no one called for his impeachment.
Insider Advantage, the most accurate poll of the 2024 presidential election, currently has Trump’s approval at 54%. Democrats, in contrast, have record-low approval.
If the “big, beautiful bill” passes in the Senate this week and gets to the president’s desk for his signature after reconciliation, it’s hard to see what the Blue Team runs on in 2026. The economy? Immigration and border security? Being anti-Israel? Supporting men playing against women in sports or sex changes for children without parental consent?
Usually, the party in power loses seats in the midterm elections. Trump’s performance in his second term and the growing insanity of the Left very likely could change all of that, especially if the economy takes off as many experts believe it will.
Iran’s nuclear program is likely gone. Democrats such as Ocasio-Cortez can talk about impeachment all they want, but the public has zero appetite for it with zero justification.
TRUMP AND JEFFERSON: RELUCTANT WORLD MAKERS
Hypocrisy is never in short supply in Washington. Unfortunately for Democrats, they’re high on their own supply as they march into political irrelevance. A relatively popular Republican president, a Republican Congress, a conservative Supreme Court, more governorships are red than blue, and Democrats are as popular as hangovers and sunburn.
But besides that, everything is going great on the left side of the aisle…
