Baseball Hall of Famer and San Francisco Giants legend Willie Mays died Tuesday, Major League Baseball announced. He was 93.
Mays was a 24-time MLB All-Star, 12-time Golden Glove winner, 2-time National League Most Valuable Player, and he won the 1954 World Series during his illustrious baseball career spanning from 1951 to 1973, with an absence in 1953 attributed to his participation in the Korean War.
Former President Barack Obama awarded Mays the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2015, saying, “It’s because of giants like Willie that someone like me could even think about running for president.”
