NextImg:Why SSI recipients will get two checks in November - Washington Examiner

Supplemental Security Income beneficiaries will receive two benefit checks in November this year but will not receive any checks the following month.

Beneficiaries usually receive one check per month. They’re receiving two because of a scheduling oddity that could cause confusion among people who rely on SSI.

Normally, the check would come on the first business day of every month, but because the first day of December falls on a Sunday, the checks are distributed on Friday, Nov. 29, instead. SSI recipients will receive checks on Nov. 1 and Nov. 29 but won’t see another check until Jan. 1, 2025.

A similar situation occurred earlier this year when beneficiaries received two checks in August but no checks in September.

Social Security checks will go out as normal on Nov. 13, Nov. 20, and Nov. 27.

SSI payments are given to people living with debilitating disabilities that affect their income, according to the Social Security Administration.

To meet eligibility requirements, filers must be at least partially blind or have a “physical or mental condition(s) that seriously limits their daily activities for 12 months or more or may be expected to result in death.”

The amount received depends on how many people are filing. Applicants filing individually can receive up to $943 per month, couples filing jointly can receive up to $1,415, and essential persons, or those who provide SSI recipients with necessary care, can receive up to $472. Inflation has caused these amounts to increase by 3.2% since last year.

SSI payments and regular Social Security benefits aren’t connected. Those who receive Social Security payments do not automatically qualify for SSI payments and vice versa.

Recipients can use an SSA calculator to figure out their payment total.
