NextImg:Why can’t Biden just unequivocally condemn antisemitism? - Washington Examiner

President Joe Biden is so beholden to progressive grievance narratives that he can’t even condemn antisemitism without making it about the plight of the Palestinians.

Students at Columbia University have taken their twisted oppression ideology to its logical conclusion, with students voicing support for terrorists and harassing Jewish students on campus. The White House issued a strong statement condemning this, with deputy press secretary Andrew Bates telling the Washington Examiner that “calls for violence and physical intimidation targeting Jewish students and the Jewish community are blatantly Antisemitic, unconscionable, and dangerous — they have absolutely no place on any college campus, or anywhere in the United States of America.”

Bates also said that “echoing the rhetoric of terrorist organizations, especially in the wake of the worst massacre committed against the Jewish people since the Holocaust, is despicable,” and “We condemn these statements in the strongest terms.”

Does “we” from the White House include Biden? Evidently not.

Biden’s personal statement to reporters on the topic of Jewish students being harassed was as follows: “I condemn the antisemitic protests. That’s why I have set up a program to deal with that. I also condemn those who don’t understand what’s going on with the Palestinians.”

That’s right. Biden can’t even focus for 10 seconds on Columbia being so unsafe for Jewish students that the university is pushing classes online without mentioning the Palestinians and condemning those who don’t think Israel should surrender to a terrorist group as he does.

This is how prominent Democrats always treat antisemitism in situations like this. When Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) spouted off her antisemitic conspiracy theories, House Democrats watered down a resolution condemning antisemitism to make it about all forms of hate. After Hamas terrorists slaughtered 1,200 Israeli civilians, the Biden administration created a “National Strategy to Counter Islamophobia” as Muslim activists whined that they were the real victims of antisemitic violence.

Even yesterday, in a post celebrating the Jewish holiday of Passover, former President Barack Obama made sure to mention Gaza and “people of all religions,” because Democrats can never let Jewish people have a moment to themselves. Not a major holiday, not a condemnation of antisemitism, not even the aftermath of an antisemitic massacre. It must always be about some other group Democrats consider to be “oppressed,” because they think Jewish people have too much “privilege” to be the singular focus of their own problems.
