The View co-host Whoopi Goldberg slammed Sen. Joe Manchin (I-WV) for not endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 election, joking she and her fellow hosts would not be endorsing him either.

Manchin’s decision not to endorse Harris was made public on Tuesday, citing the vice president’s desire to eliminate the Senate’s filibuster to pass federal legislation allowing abortion access nationwide. The senator cautioned that Harris’s carve-out for the filibuster would make the Senate like the House “on steroids,” adding that the filibuster is “the only thing that keeps us talking and working together.”

Well, we ain’t endorsing you either! How about that?” Goldberg said, drawing applause from The View’s audience. “He’s gone a whole other way.”

Goldberg’s joke was made even though Manchin is not seeking reelection this November. Gov. Jim Justice (R-WV) is currently favored to win Manchin’s spot in the Senate after winning the Republican Party’s primary for the seat.

In May, Manchin switched his party affiliation from the Democratic Party to be an independent candidate, citing how neither the GOP or the Democratic Part are “willing to compromise to find common ground.” His announcement was made a day after former President Donald Trump was found guilty on 34 felony counts of falsifying documents, though Manchin made no indication the two were related.

Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (I-AZ) has also warned against eliminating the filibuster, as doing so to codify Roe v. Wade would allow Congress to implement a national abortion ban in the future. Like Manchin, Sinema left the Democratic Party to become an independent in December 2022, and is also not seeking reelection.
