The View co-host Whoopi Goldberg joked during Wednesday's episode that critics of President Joe Biden should be glad his dog "hasn't bitten any Republicans" when discussing the pet's reported biting incidents.

Goldberg began discussing the subject by pretending to tear up that "another member of the Biden family is under more scrutiny," an apparent joke on the president's son, Hunter Biden. The report Goldberg and her co-hosts were discussing was from Judicial Watch, which stated that Biden's dog Commander had 10 attacks from September 2022 to January 2023.

"It is not easy!" Goldberg said about Commander. "When you have a chomper, somebody who just, you’re walking by and they’re like, 'Mmm, let me get a little taste of this!' And, you know, he hasn’t bitten any Republicans, so I think y’all should be really glad, right?"

Co-host Joy Behar stated the problem with Biden's dogs is their names, as the previous dog the Biden family had in the White House was named Major. Behar said the names are "warlike" and that using other names, such as "Fluffy" and "Sweetie-Pie," would help the dog calm down.

Co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin noted that Commander is a German shepherd, a "protective" dog breed. Griffin, who worked in the White House during President Donald Trump's term, said "there's constantly foot traffic" throughout the White House and that Commander probably needs "very special training."

The report on Commander stated the most serious incident took place on Nov. 5, 2022, when Commander allegedly came toward a Secret Service officer from down the stairs of the White House and bit the person's arm and then bit the officer's leg when the officer stood up. The officer was reportedly treated by White House medical personnel before being transported to a hospital in the area.

In an email to a colleague two days after the incident, the Secret Service officer who was attacked said that he "bit me twice and ran at me twice." To which the other Secret Service employee replied, "What a joke … if it wasn’t their dog he would already have been put down — freaking clown needs a muzzle."

Biden's previous dog, Major, had been a problem for the first family in the early days of Biden's administration, biting Secret Service officials and using White House hallways as a restroom. The White House later confirmed that Major was given away to family friends in December 2021, when the Biden family welcomed Commander to the executive mansion.
