Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D-MI) took a shot at Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) for his ongoing feud with Disney by alluding to politicians who are picking fights with Mickey Mouse.

Whitmer also claimed that other states are "waging wars" against parts of their respective populations. Her comments came while speaking on Comedy Central's The Daily Show on Wednesday.

"Other states are waging wars against different parts of their population. I think a lot of politicians just wanna pick fights and get headlines, whether it's picking a fight with Mickey Mouse or moving backwards to the early 1900s. It's so much easier to show up and to listen to people and know what really matters," Whitmer said.

"We're trying to make Michigan a place where every business can thrive, and every person has rights and freedoms to make their own decisions and to live the life they want and to be successful here in Michigan," she added.

DeSantis has been working to take control of the special district encompassing the Walt Disney World Resort but has faced some roadblocks as Disney has fought to maintain its autonomy.

The battle between DeSantis and Disney, which led to Disney's Central Florida district being restructured, stemmed from the entertainment giant's comments denouncing DeSantis's push for the Parental Rights in Education Act last year. Disney had maintained full autonomy over the district since its creation in 1967.

Earlier this month, DeSantis took a dig at Whitmer's governance while speaking at the Midland County Michigan Republican Party breakfast. He suggested Michiganders were leaving the state.

"Now, as governor of Florida, when I want to hang out with Michiganders at the beginning of April, I usually just go to Naples," DeSantis said. "But it's great to be in the real thing."

Both governors were elected to second terms last November, with Whitmer defeating her Republican challenger 54%-43% and DeSantis defeating his Democratic challenger 59%-40%.
