NextImg:White House won't 'dignify' Biden drug use allegations ahead of debate - Washington Examiner

The White House declined to respond to allegations that President Joe Biden will be on performance-enhancing drugs ahead of his debate with former President Donald Trump Thursday night in Atlanta.

The Trump campaign has attempted to lower expectations for Biden as he prepared for the debate in Delaware and at Camp David over the past week, alleging that Biden will take illicit substances to explain why he might do well. The Biden campaign has accused Trump and his allies of “resorting to desperate, obviously false lies” with the attack, but White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said she would not “dignify that with an answer” as she fielded questions from reporters aboard Air Force One on Thursday afternoon en route to Georgia.

Jean-Pierre faced several questions about CNN’s debate, the first between Biden and Trump since 2020, but referred most of those inquiries to the president’s 2024 campaign.

“This president, he likes to fight. He likes to fight for the American people. He believes in standing up for the American people. You’ve seen him do that over and over again,” she responded when asked if the president was satisfied with the pre-established ground rules for the debate. “I would refer you to the State of the Union, not just this year but also last year, and how he was able to take extreme Republicans in the room on. I’m just going to leave that there.”

Unlike Biden, Trump’s campaign has told reporters he did not undergo formal debate preparation, choosing instead high-level policy discussions with allies, including members of his vice presidential short list.
