The White House pushed back on the House Oversight Committee after it subpoenaed two Biden family members.

The committee issued three subpoenas on Wednesday for President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, his brother, James Biden, and a Biden family business associate, Rob Walker.

The Washington Examiner asked White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre about the subpoenas during the afternoon news briefing.

"I don't have this information in front of me. I'm just hearing it from you," Jean-Pierre told the Washington Examiner. "Certainly, I would refer you to the personal representatives on your question."

However, she then launched into a lengthy criticism of the committee's work.

"This is an investigation that has been going on for a year now and has turned up zero evidence of wrongdoing by the president because there is none," Jean-Pierre said. "Republicans continue to double down on a baseless, baseless smear campaign against the president and his family instead of being focused on the American people's needs."

The new subpoenas are three of the most consequential that House Oversight Chairman James Comer (R-KY) has filed during his tenure. The subpoenas are for depositions for testimony related to the House GOP's impeachment inquiry.

Hunter and James Biden are centerpieces of Comer’s investigation into Biden and his family’s overseas business.

Along with claiming that there is no evidence, Biden administration officials say the investigations are nothing more than a distraction.

"There are a lot of important issues that we need to deal with, not just here in the White House but also in Congress," Jean-Pierre said. "National security, the economy, healthcare, gun violence, that's what we should be focusing on. But they continue to try to smear this president and his family."

The committee also requested transcribed interviews with a number of other Biden family members, including James Biden’s wife, Sara Biden, Hallie Biden and her sister Elizabeth Secundy, Hunter Biden’s wife Melissa Cohen, and former Biden family business associate Tony Bobulinski.

Jean-Pierre was asked by another reporter if the Biden relatives and Walker should comply with the subpoena. She did not respond before leaving the podium.
