The White House has reiterated President Joe Biden's support of Roe v. Wade-era abortion access, despite referring to his past anti-abortion sentiment during a closed-door fundraiser.

"I think the president has been quite clear and consistent over the course of his career, and certainly over the course of the last year," deputy press secretary Olivia Dalton told reporters Wednesday on Air Force One en route to Chicago.

"We've experienced the fall of Roe, a constitutional right that's existed for 50 years for women in this country," she said. "The president has been resolute, has been consistent in saying he's going to continue the fight to codify Roe into law so women can continue to have the fundamental access to reproductive rights."

During a fundraiser Tuesday night in Maryland, hosted days after the first anniversary of the Supreme Court overturning Roe through Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization, Biden reminded donors he is "a practicing Catholic."

"I'm not big on abortion, but guess what? Roe v. Wade got it right," he said, according to pool reports.

Newsweek's Daniel Bush also noted that Biden criticized states that have restricted abortion access, in addition to Republican governors who support banning books deemed inappropriate for children.

During another fundraiser on Tuesday, held before Friday's campaign finance disclosure deadline, Biden said he is "determined to bring back Roe v. Wade."

"My objective to do that is to get half the states to decide that because now, the court said, you know, it’s state issue," he added. "And the thing I love, they said, 'And we'll see what women can do.' They're going to find out. They're going to find out."
