The White House has a prebuttal for House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer's highly anticipated press conference about his panel's investigation into alleged influence peddling by President Joe Biden's family.

"House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer is loudly and proudly broadcasting a press conference today to continue his long pattern of making absurd claims that President Biden has made governing decisions not in the interest of America, but of the Chinese Communist Party, using baseless claims, personal attacks, and innuendo to try to score political points," White House Counsel's Office spokesman Ian Sams said Wednesday.

In a memo titled, "James Comer’s Absurd Innuendo Ignores Reality: President Biden’s Decisions Have Made U.S. More Competitive With China, House Republicans’ Decisions Have Benefited China," the White House emphasized how House Republicans have opposed the president’s actions that "created jobs here versus China and pushed the [the People's Republic of China] and its leaders for answers on important global issues."

"Oddly, he has been promising — then failing to deliver — this press conference for weeks, raising questions about his shoot-first, figure-it-out-later approach to what is clearly an evidence-free, politically-motivated 'investigation,'" Sams wrote."Instead of floating evidence-free innuendo, and making absurd attacks on the President and his family to try to score political points, Chairman Comer and House Oversight Republicans should answer the question: Why have you repeatedly sided with PRC interests over American workers and the American economy, instead of joining President Biden to put in place a strong agenda to create more American jobs and make us more competitive with China?"

Comer told the Washington Examiner earlier this week the Oversight Committee is investigating the Biden family’s "influence peddling schemes to determine whether foreign actors targeted the Biden family, the president is compromised, and there are threats to national security," contending "Americans deserve transparency and accountability, and that is what we are delivering."

"More evidence continues to come to light showing a consistent pattern of the Bidens receiving payments from countries like China for unknown services," he said. "Instead of following the facts and money trail, Democrats are acting as defense lawyers for the Bidens and trying to deter us from doing our job to provide checks and balances."
