White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters Monday that the Biden administration is "ready to fight" the Texas court ruling that would block the Food and Drug Administration's approval of the abortion drug mifepristone.

Texas's U.S. District Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk handed down the ruling Friday, but the measure was temporarily stayed after Thomas Rice, a Washington-based U.S. District judge, issued a conflicting ruling.

DOJ ASKS APPEALS COURT TO STAY TEXAS RULING AGAINST FDA ABORTION DRUG APPROVAL

On Monday, hours after the Justice Department asked the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit to stay Kacsmaryk's decision, Jean-Pierre faced a number of questions on the subject and reiterated the administration's position that abortion is "a fundamental freedom."

"We get the frustration regarding this decision. Absolutely. And that's why we were quick to act. That's why you saw DOJ take action," she stated. "We are prepared to have a long legal fight here."

Jean-Pierre decried the Texas ruling as a "dangerous precedent for courts to set aside the FDA's expert judgment regarding a drug's safety and efficiency."

Later in the briefing, Jean-Pierre told reporters that, even after 2022's Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization decision, the administration is confident the Supreme Court would issue a ruling backing the FDA, should the case be elevated to the nation's highest court.

"There is a process in place for appealing these types of decisions, and we will pursue that process vigorously. That's what the American people can count on from the Biden-Harris administration," she added. "If necessary, we believe we will win this long fight if it goes to the Supreme Court."
