The White House needled House Republicans over the lack of a new speaker before President Joe Biden is expected to make a $100 billion supplemental funding request to Congress for Israel, Ukraine, Taiwan, and the border.
"President Biden is leading and standing up for our national security interests on the world stage, fighting to reduce costs like energy and junk fees — both of which he took recent action on — and bringing the nation together to support Israel in the wake of the worst terrorist attack in its history," White House spokesman Andrew Bates told reporters on Thursday.

He added: "Meanwhile, House Republicans continue their downward spiral into chaos and away from governing."
Bates underscored the positions of House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA) and House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH), contending the "backbiting and competition to out-extreme each other is also surfacing hard-line positions that the American people have solidly rejected again and again."
"At a forum last week, neither Republican candidate for speaker was willing to even say outright that the 2020 election, which the Trump administration itself verified was the most secure in history and over 80 federal judges have affirmed, was legitimate," the spokesman said. "And every Republican candidate for speaker has supported multiple abortion bans."
He went on: "They need to get their act together and join this president at the adults table."
Biden is scheduled to deliver a prime-time Oval Office address on Thursday regarding Israel and Ukraine as House Republicans consider expanding Speaker Pro Tempore Patrick McHenry's (R-NC) powers in the interim.

Earlier, during separate remarks in Israel, Biden told the country, "You are not alone," but recommended caution after the United States's response to the 9/11 attacks.
"While you feel that rage, don't be consumed by it," he said. "After 9/11, we were enraged in the United States. While we sought justice and got justice, we also made mistakes."
