White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre repeatedly stressed Monday that President Joe Biden was never involved in the business dealings of his son, Hunter Biden.

Jean-Pierre's comments come after Attorney General Merrick Garland elevated David Weiss from the lead prosecutor in Hunter Biden's tax case to special counsel overseeing all investigations into the younger Biden's business dealings.

"The president was not in business with his son — that still stands," Jean-Pierre told reporters during Monday's White House press briefing. "I've been very clear about that. The president's been very clear about that."

The press secretary, when pressed on how Hunter Biden's plea deal fell apart prior to Weiss's elevation to special counsel, accused Republicans of investigating the Bidens for years while failing to produce evidence of corruption.

"If you think about what Republicans in Congress have tried to do for years, right, they have been making claims and allegations right about the president on this front over and over again," she claimed. "And month after month, year after year, they've been investigating every single angle of this and looking for any evidence to back their allegations. That's what they've been doing for years, for months."

"They keep turning up documents and witnesses showing that the president wasn't involved, never discussed these business dealings, and did nothing wrong," she continued. "There's been zero evidence showing otherwise, and so that's what we've seen over the past several months. That's what we've seen over the past several years."

Until Monday, the White House had not commented on the special counsel development, but Joe Biden had previously discounted testimony from Devon Archer, who was Hunter Biden's business associate.

"I never talked business. I knew you'd have a lousy question," Joe Biden told a reporter in New Mexico after being asked about Archer's claim that the younger Biden frequently sold the "illusion" of access to his father when he was vice president. "It isn't true."
