The White House repeatedly declined on Monday to clarify comments President Joe Biden made regarding a new deal on Ukraine aid with House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA).
Biden delivered remarks from the White House on Sunday following the passage of a continuing resolution keeping the government open for 45 days. That legislation included new funding to refill the Federal Emergency Management Agency's disaster relief fund but no additional aid for Ukraine, as requested by the president.

Following his remarks, Biden responded to a question from reporters and said he expected McCarthy to honor the "new deal" the two had brokered regarding future funds for Ukraine.
Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) specifically pointed to Biden's comments Monday while previewing a possible motion to vacate McCarthy's speakership, something he has repeatedly threatened over the past year.
However, when pressed on Biden's remarks during Monday's press briefing, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre repeatedly declined to say if Biden's remarks were "true."
"What we're saying. We're saying that there's bipartisan support. There has been, and we appreciate, the bipartisan support that we've seen for Ukraine from the beginning, and we believe that's going to continue," she said in one response. "And so that is what we see. And that's how we see this moving forward."
"The speaker doesn't need to backchannel," she said in a separate exchange before repeating her answer on "bipartisan support" for continuing to support Ukraine.
Asked a third time if what Biden said "was true," Jean-Pierre simply responded, "I'm just saying that I'm not going to go beyond what he said."
